Our History

Luminance Studios was founded in 2010 by visionary photographer, Ava Sterling, with a simple yet ambitious goal: to create a world-class photo and video studio rental facility in the heart of Los Angeles. Ava recognized a need for a studio that not only provided top-of-the-line equipment and facilities but also fostered a supportive and collaborative community for creative professionals.

2010: Founding of Luminance Studios

Ava Sterling establishes Luminance Studios in a small warehouse space in the Arts District of Downtown Los Angeles. The initial studio focuses on providing basic equipment rentals and a single shooting space.

2013: Expansion to Second Studio

Due to increasing demand, Luminance Studios expands to a second studio location in Culver City. This new space, known as "The Loft," offers a more industrial-chic aesthetic and caters to a wider range of creative projects.

2016: Introduction of On-Site Support Services

Luminance Studios introduces on-site technical support services to assist clients with equipment setup, lighting design, and troubleshooting. This initiative significantly enhances the client experience and solidifies Luminance Studios' reputation for exceptional customer service.

2018: Launch of "The Oasis" Studio

Luminance Studios launches its third studio location, "The Oasis," in Santa Monica. This unique studio features a lush green wall and a tranquil atmosphere, catering to wellness brands and natural light photography.

2020: Adaptation During the Pandemic

Luminance Studios adapts to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic by implementing strict safety protocols, offering virtual consultations, and providing flexible booking options to support clients during uncertain times. They also enhanced cleaning and sanitation procedures for client safety.

2023: Expansion of Equipment Rental Inventory

Luminance Studios invests in a significant expansion of its equipment rental inventory, adding the latest cameras, lighting, and grip equipment from top brands like Profoto, Arri, Canon, and Sony. This expansion solidifies Luminance Studios' position as a premier provider of cutting-edge equipment.
